2016 ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

From 11th to 14th October 2016 the Malawi government in conjunction with the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Save the Children Malawi organised the 2016 annual conference on inclusive education that took place at Sun and Sand Hotel in Mangochi. Being an international conference there were also delegates from other countries.
The general theme for this 1st Annual Conference on Inclusive Education was “Make Education Inclusive: Eliminate obstacles to learning for all children”

Conference Objectives were as follow:

  1. To share with stakeholders the international and national standards/frameworks guiding Inclusive Education (IE) and Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST)’s plans for the Education Sector.
  2. To disseminate lessons generated from implementation of the Inclusive Education programme being implemented by Save the Children in collaboration with MOEST-Special Needs Education, CCAP Blantyre Synod, CCAP Synod of Livingstonia and Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) and Foundation of Children’s Rights (FCR)
  3. To exchange and learn good practices from different Inclusive Education related initiatives
  4. To identify advocacy issues in IE that will inform policy change and build partnerships
  5. To raise the profile of Inclusive Education in Malawi among partners, the media, other stakeholders etc.

MANAD mounted pavilion to show what the organization is doing to promote inclusive education in Malawi.   MANAD was represented by the Executive Director, and Advocacy member Mr Blessings Phiri who informed the Minister of Education Hon Emmanuel Fabiano and the invited guest about sign language, challenges and other activities the organization is doing in promoting inclusive education.

The minister was very impressed by MANAD sign language issues.  He then asked us to put all information in writing to him.
