Validation Workshop for Malawian Sign Language Dictionary Videos

A team of 11 members from the Sign Language Working Group is currently conducting a four-day validation workshop aimed at assessing and verifying Malawian Sign Language video materials.

The videos form part of the language corpus for the ongoing development of the Malawian Sign Language Dictionary. They represent valuable contributions collected from the Deaf community during the initial production phase of the project.

Taking place from 5th to 8th May 2026, the workshop will see participants review and validate a total of 336 video clips to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality before their final inclusion in the dictionary.

The validated materials will play a key role in strengthening the accuracy, usability, and accessibility of the forthcoming dictionary for educational institutions, interpreters, researchers, and the wider Deaf community. The initiative also contributes to the standardization and nationwide accessibility of Malawian Sign Language resources.
