Our Advocacy program is at the heart of our mission. We work tirelessly to promote the rights and inclusion of deaf individuals in all aspects of life. Through collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders, we advocate for policies and practices that ensure equal opportunities and access for the deaf community. Our efforts include:
- Policy Development: Engaging with policymakers to create and implement laws that protect the rights of the deaf.
- Awareness Campaigns: Educating the public about deaf culture, challenges, and the importance of inclusivity.
- Legal Support: Providing resources and guidance to deaf individuals in navigating legal issues related to their rights.
Empowering the deaf community to lead independent and fulfilling lives is a core objective of our Capacity Building program. We provide training and support to enhance the skills and capabilities of deaf individuals and organizations that serve them. Our initiatives include:
- Skill Development Workshops: Offering training in areas such as leadership, entrepreneurship, and vocational skills to help deaf individuals achieve their personal and professional goals.
- Organizational Support: Assisting deaf-led organizations with resources, training, and mentorship to strengthen their capacity to serve their communities effectively.
- Youth Empowerment: Focusing on the next generation, we run programs designed to equip deaf youth with the tools they need to succeed in education and beyond.
We believe that communication is key to inclusion. Our Sign Language program focuses on promoting the use of Malawi Sign Language (MSL) across the country. We offer:
- Sign Language Courses: Tailored to different skill levels, our courses are open to everyone—deaf and hearing alike—who wishes to learn MSL.
- Interpreter Training: We train and certify sign language interpreters to ensure that deaf individuals have access to quality communication support in various settings, including education, healthcare, and public services.
- Resource Development: We produce and distribute materials such as dictionaries, manuals, and online resources to help spread and standardize the use of MSL.
